Westport is the next town west of Fairfield, a short run down the Post Road or I-95. The Saugatuck River cuts through the middle of it, and the town stretches from Compo Beach and Sherwood Island State Park up past the Merritt Parkway toward Weston.
Each part has its own feel. Saugatuck grew up around the river and the train station, and it's now a mix of older houses, condos and restaurants. Greens Farms has its own Metro-North stop and larger properties near the water, and Coleytown and the roads off Weston Road (Route 57) are quieter and more wooded. Downtown Main Street and the Post Road carry most of the shops, salons and offices.
Alongside the older housing, there's a lot of new construction. Older homes come down and larger ones go up on the same lot, and those projects keep builders, agents and cleaners busy year round.
