Rye is a small city on Long Island Sound, right next to Port Chester and a short hop over the line from Greenwich. I-95 runs through it, and I-287 meets I-95 at the Rye and Port Chester line, which makes it one of the easiest places in Westchester to reach from our side of the border.
Downtown is compact. Purchase Street has the shops, cafes and small offices, and the Metro-North station on the New Haven Line is a short walk away. Toward the water, Rye Playland is the county-owned amusement park and a National Historic Landmark, with the beach and the Edith G. Read Wildlife Sanctuary beside it.
Most of Rye is houses: colonials, Tudors and shingle-style homes on tree-lined streets, with larger waterfront properties out on Milton Point and along the shore toward Greenhaven, near the Mamaroneck line.
