Trumbull borders Fairfield to the northeast and sits where several main roads meet. The Merritt Parkway crosses the south end, Route 8 and Route 25 run north and south, and Main Street (Route 111) carries traffic past the Westfield Trumbull mall.
Nichols, in the southeast corner near Stratford, is one of the oldest parts of town. Long Hill and Daniels Farm are farther north, with neighborhoods of capes, ranches, split-levels and colonials, much of it built in the middle of the last century. Tashua, on the Easton side, is more open and wooded, with larger lots. The Pequonnock River Valley runs down the middle as protected parkland.
Trumbull is mostly residential, with offices and retail clustered along Main Street, near the mall and around the Route 25 and Merritt interchange. From Fairfield it's a quick trip.
