Port Chester is a village in the Town of Rye, sitting right on the Connecticut line. The Byram River separates it from the Byram section of Greenwich, and King Street runs north along the state line toward Rye Brook. For us, it's the first stop in New York.
The village has a real downtown. Main Street, Westchester Avenue and the Boston Post Road are lined with restaurants, bakeries, shops and small offices, and the Capitol Theatre on Westchester Avenue draws crowds from both states. The Metro-North station on the New Haven Line sits right in the middle, and a large shopping center stretches along the Byram River.
The housing is denser than in the towns around it. Older two- and three-family houses fill the side streets, there are plenty of apartment buildings, and newer apartment buildings have gone up downtown.
