New Rochelle is a city on Long Island Sound, settled by French Huguenots in 1688 and now one of the largest cities in Westchester. I-95 runs through it, and the downtown transit center is both a Metro-North stop on the New Haven Line and an Amtrak station.
Downtown has changed fast. A rezoning in 2015 opened the way for a wave of new apartment towers around Main Street, Huguenot Street and the station, and more are still going up. North Avenue runs north past Iona University toward Wykagyl and its shopping center, and the North End is quieter, with larger houses in Wykagyl, Beechmont and Residence Park.
The south end runs out to the water. Davenport Neck and Premium Point are waterfront neighborhoods, and Hudson Park and Glen Island Park sit on the shore.
